Driving a passenger bus
Driving a passenger bus.
Is that inconvenient?
Oh well, everything gets used to it.
When you come to collect the bus from us, we will calmly explain how everything works.
Unless you're in a hurry. Then we'll make sure you get out quickly.
Driving a passenger bus is almost the same, yet different from driving a passenger car. A bus is longer. You need to pay attention to that when driving. Because the bus is longer, it is better to take corners a bit wider than you are used to.
Another issue is reversing. Difficult because you have much less visibility than in a passenger car. Therefore, when reversing, have people outside the bus assist you. This can save a lot of hassle afterwards.
Forgotten
The previous article was about insuring your passenger van.
But I forgot to mention something.
About damage. Sorry!
Three special cases of damage are interior damage, intentional damage and overhead damage.
Interior damage occurs when you put your feet against the dashboard, or when you let a bitey dog sit in the car and do its thing. Pets are already not allowed in our rental cars, but if damage occurs to the interior, this damage is not covered by the excess and will have to be paid for in full.
Intentional damage is caused when you deliberately let the rented van crash into another car, trying to get our insurance company to pay for the damage to the other car. Who does that? Of course, I don't want to give you any bad ideas It might help to know that in case of intentional damage, you will have to pay the damage to our bus plus the damage to the other party's car plus a fine. Furthermore, you will be listed as a fraudster and a database of all insurers...
A special case of damage is the overhead damage. This is damage to the bus up to 75 cm below the roof edge, measured from above. This damage can be caused by driving under a bridge that is too low for the bus, or past a balcony or other obstacle. Or a car park that the bus does not fit into.
Because the clearance height is always indicated on lower bridges, and because the height is also stated in the bus, these overhead damages are easy to avoid. Unfortunately, if such damage does occur, no excess applies. Such damages must be compensated in full. Overhead damage can amount to thousands of euros. So keep in mind in your planning which bridges or tunnels you have to drive past!
Our passenger buses are always 2 metres high, so too high for the car parks at Schiphol....
Fine
Privately, we know: fines are something we prefer to throw in the bin. But what happens if you get a fine with your van?
I wrote an article about that. You can find that here: What do we do with a fine?
Longer rental
If you want to keep the bus longer, that's usually not a problem. However, you should let us know. The easiest way is if you give us a call during office hours (Monday to Saturday, 9am-5pm): 043-3521100. You will then hear immediately whether it is necessary to come by to top up the deposit, if necessary. Send an e-mail to info@ad-rem.nl may of course.
